Peace is about living into the goodness and wholeness of life by recognizing and honoring LOVE.

This book is…
an offering of story
an invitation to prayer
a call to be a loving presence in the world
As Young Rose is poised to cross the threshold into adulthood, her GG (Goodness Guide) invites her to follow a labyrinthian path to recognize and honor LOVE.
This story is an invitation to the reader to reimagine ways to explore the beauty and challenges of being a peacemaker. It is a call to restore the heart and wholeness of the world.
ABOUT SPIRITUAL MEMOIRS
Thank you for visiting this website to learn more about the book PEACE JOURNEY. This book is a fictional story rooted in spiritual memoir. Perhaps you are wondering what spiritual memoir is. Here is my definition:
Spiritual memoir is a story about the pursuit of spiritual integrity and health.
My favorite (spiritual) memoir is THE DANCE OF THE DISSIDENT DAUGHTER, A Woman’s Journey from Christian Tradition to the Sacred Feminine, by Sue Monk Kidd. She wonderfully articulates her own story of pursuing spiritual integrity and health.
This PEACE JOURNEY story is my invitation to you, the Reader, to explore your journey of spiritual integrity and health. Perhaps you don’t consider yourself to be a spiritual person. Fair enough. However, I offer the following quote for your consideration:
“We are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience.” –Pierre Teilhard de Chardin
Another way to put it is that we are spiritual beings sharing this human path. Therefore, all memoir could be considered spiritual memoir; all stories grounded in our spiritual/human selves.
WHAT IS LOVE?
In the Prologue of my book PEACE JOURNEY, I change the name of the divine to LOVE. This is to acknowledge the inclusive character of The One Who IS LOVE. So, what is LOVE? Here is my definition:
LOVE is creative power in the midst of chaos.
Creative power—love—is shared power, courageous power, life-enhancing power.

THE LABYRINTHIAN PATH

The labyrinthian path of following my calling to Honor LOVE unfolded for me when my family moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado, in the late 1960s. Even though I was a child, I began to recognize my individual calling in the midst of the collective work of honoring LOVE.
Many years later, my introduction to the actual ancient archetype of the labyrinth came in 1999, at the end of the last millennium. I was on a flight home from being the guest preacher at the church of a seminary classmate in a large city in the southeast (USA).
My classmate and his family were gracious hosts, and their congregation was most welcoming. I had been invited because I was the immediate past president of the organization called Baptist Women in Ministry (my term as president was 1997-1999). It had been a challenging weekend because I just did not have any oomph in my preaching—it felt like I had run out of Good News to proclaim from the pulpit.
As I sat in my seat on the airplane, I pondered many things in my heart. The primary feeling I had been experiencing for a long time was grief, and there were many sources of grief to ponder. As the flight continued, I grew weary of tromping around the grief-rut of my thoughts, so I reached for the airline magazine in the seat-back pocket. That is where I discovered a book review of WALKING A SACRED PATH, Rediscovering the Labyrinth as a Spiritual Tool, by Dr. Lauren Artress.
I was immediately fascinated by the archetype of the labyrinth and bought the book as soon as I could. As the year 2000 began, I used the love offering given by my classmate’s congregation to buy supplies, and my fifteen-year-old son and I cleared a space in the backyard and put in a labyrinth of our own. Though he was less enthusiastic about the project than I was, his innate kindness and love for his mom brought him to the work. The labyrinth became an important symbol for my journey into the 21 st century.
